In 1978, Mark A. Smith and a team from Jeepers Jamboree embarked on the longest overland expedition to date, a full crossing of the Americas from Tierra del Fuego to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. This included the Darien Gap, the nearly impenetrable jungle between Colombia and Panama. Edla (short for Expedicion de las Americas) is one of the five Jeep CJ-7s that completed the trip.
We recently acquired Edla from the original family, and will be performing a bumper-to-bumper restoration. We won’t be tampering with the beautiful rust, dents, and patina…our goal is to make her mechanically new while preserving her heritage.

CORTEZ, Colo. – Tuffy Security Products has returned from the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) trade show in Las Vegas with two prestigious awards for its new Jeep® Gladiator pickup bed storage organizer system.
It was named runner-up for the Best New Van/Pickup/SUV Product presented by SEMA; and SEMA’s Truck & Off-Road Association (TORA) bestowed its Light Truck Product Award on the system, which helps keep gear organized and out of sight.

The system features long, strong steel compartments installed along both sides of the pickup bed, comprised of three separate lids with dividers, allowing outdoor adventure gear and other items to be stowed and organized out of the elements. These Tuffy lockboxes are manufactured with 16-gauge, 1/8-inch-thick welded steel and the bin lids are covered with a sturdy, lightweight composite material for weather resistance. The lids also include pushbutton locks that allow latching without having to lock them with a key. Additionally, with the Gladiator’s lower bed height, the lockboxes can easily be accessed from the exterior of the bed, while allowing the use of factory bed lights, as well as the optional 110-volt power point. Multiple BullRing® tie downs are affixed to the side of the lockboxes, so the included nylon net can be used to secure larger gear in the pickup bed.

Luck favors the prepared. Louis Pasteur said it – in so many words – more than 150 years ago and it still rings true, especially when it comes to overlanding. From a winch and a shovel to portable power and your favorite fixings for breakfast, hitting the trail prepared for all eventualities helps make the experience a more enjoyable one.
That goes double for the assurance that comes with knowing your more valuable items are secure when you can’t be with them. Smartphones, laptops, camera gear, firearms and important paperwork are all vulnerable to theft when you’re away from your vehicle in remote areas.
